Nothing much happens in Sycamore, the small village where Clara lives - at least, that's how it looks. She loves eating ripe mangoes fallen from trees, running outside in the rainy season and escaping to her secret hideout with her best friend Gaynah. There's only one problem - she can't remember anything that happened last summer. When a quirky girl called Rudy arrives from England, everything starts to change. Gaynah stops acting like a best friend, while Rudy and Clara roam across the island and uncover an old family secret. As the summer reaches its peak and the island storms begin, Clara's memory starts to return and she must finally face the truth of what happened last year.

An enjoyable read with a breathtaking twist, but I thought parts of it felt a bit disjointed and some of the characters could have been developed more. That said, I enjoyed it overall.

I thought this book was very good because it makes me feel what it is like to be scared of something that is normal like her dad ids scared of the water but now he's used to being in the water for fun

I liked this book because it was creative and fun. My favourite character was Rudy because she was adventurous and imaginative.

I liked Clara the most because she persevered and was strong through out the whole story. I would recommend this book to older readers as it is very emmotional.

This book was fiction and I liked Ms Gee the best because she is so stubborn but she is actually very nice. I would recommend it to someone who likes the beach, tropical things and a bit of a spooky twist…

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has likeable and funny characters. It is set in a friendly yet slightly mysterious Caribbean village where the residents are withdrawn and guarded and no one knows why or certainly a reader doesn't. Clara, the main character, spends her days sitting by the edge of the water, watching her friends splashing about merrily, feeling herself strangely frightened by people's concern for her. She can't remember what happened last summer but she is determined to find out. As she walks among the towering sand dunes with her new friend Rudy, a plucky girl visiting from England, she is swept into the truth of what happened last year.

Set in the caribbean. A page turner with lots of different elements: environment, friendship, loss, ghosts, history. So believable. The ending is a real surprise.

I thought this book was really good and I’m not sure if it’s fictional or not though.

This is an amazing book full of culture and information about other cultures! I would recommend this book to everyone!! My favourite character would be Ruby because she has an amazing personality and whenever she is mentioned in the book it makes me smile.

It is a fiction book even though the author grew up a place like this. My favourite character is Clara a girl who can see ghosts. At the beginning of the book we think her best friend Gaynah is real and only at the end we realise it that she is dead. Clara think it’s her fault but she has to let her go in peace, so she can have peace too. I think it’s is a fantastic book but a little sad too.

This book told a story from a different perspective. A person who can’t remember last summer. ‘A summer she cant’t remember. A friendship she can’t forget’
