There are no polar bears left on Bear Island. At least, that’s what April’s father tells her when his scientific research takes them to this remote Arctic outpost for six months. But one endless summer night, April meets one. He is starving, lonely and a long way from home. Determined to save him, April begins the most important journey of her life…

I loved it. I couldn’t put it down. I love how April found a connection and a love for the bear - and the bear for her too.

Hannah gold is a very inspiring author as it tells us a story which is fiction but it has sprinkles of non fiction too. I loved this book because it tells us what climate change is doing to the ice caps and how fast they are melting. It is so sad to read a book and hear about how fast the ice caps are melting and that Polar bears are being the victims of our selfishness. I would definitely recommend this to people that are into stories that have a connection with wildlife and that a small thing can make a big difference especially if you help had more than one person making a difference.

One of my favourite books. Since reading it my dad and sister have also read and enjoyed. April is a girl who has lost her mum. She lives with her dad who is a scientist. They go to live on Bear Island and the story unfolds. It's very heart warming and I'm looking forward to reading the second book.

I read The Last Bear and my favourite character was April because she met a polar bear a few weeks later and they looked really cute together. I liked the bear a lot too because for me polar bears are fascinating creatures mainly because when you meet a wild bear we usually expect them to eat the person but this one was a lot different to the others since it actually did not eat the little girl after all. I really liked the story, mainly because it has fascinating facts about polar bears. I would recommend this book because this is a great book for anyone who likes reading books with amazing animals in it.

"The Last Bear" by Hannah Gold, illustrated by Levi Pinfold is the most astonishing book I've ever read in my life! This bestseller even betters "An Eagle In The Snow", which in my previous review was a 5-star book! The book starts with an 11-year old girl whose father is a meteorologist, who needs to travel on a boat to Bear Island in the middle of Svalbard (part of its province) and mainland Norway. When they get there, on the first night, April saw a glimpse of something and thought it was a bear and decided to search the next day. So the next day she searched the whole island to prove her dad wrong because he said there were no bears present because of the melting ice caps. She couldn't find one the first time but then she found a bear. She gave it peanut butter and oat biscuits and he ate both. She named the bear, well, Bear. Bear had an injured leg that she healed. Then April started feeding it aniseed candy! Bear showed April his home that he'd been living in since he had left Svalbard. He then became a lot healthier. Then Bear ran away, April tried to catch up and when jumping over a lake she twisted her ankle. Afterwards Bear took April on a ride home on his back! They had such a good time together, but then April had to take Bear home. Unexpectedly, April and her father had to go and to make things worse her father thought Bear was her imaginary friend. Then at ten o'clock in an emergency Bear and April sailed to Svalbard so that Bear could get home . Suddenly, they got caught in a storm and April sank in the sea and Bear saved her life! April's dad rescued her from the sea. She then remembered Bear and she ran to the boat and Bear was chained up! Then the captain of the ship tried to shoot Bear! April, her dad and a crew member called Tör saved Bear. They made the captain agree to sail Bear to Svalbard, where he was picked up by the Polar institute. When April returned home they then moved near the ocean and Tör said that he would take photos of Bear. THE END! This book made me feel sad in sad parts and happy in happy parts. I think I had a special bond with the book because when the book ended I was quite blue. However, when I heard about "Finding Bear", the book's sequel, I was beaming with happiness and joy. I would recommend this book for every person over the age of 7. My favourite character is Bear. It was extremely interesting and teaches you about global warming. This is why I gave this book a 5-star review!
