The moving story of a family's fight to reunite after their lives are torn apart by war in Syria, from Elizabeth Laird, award-winning author of A Little Piece of Ground and Welcome to Nowhere. Thirteen-year-old Safiya and her family have been driven out of Syria by civil war. Safiya knows how lucky she is - lucky not to be living in a refugee camp, lucky to be alive. But it's hard to feel grateful when she's forced to look after her father and brother rather than go back to school, and now that she's lost her home, she's lonelier than ever. As they struggle to rebuild their lives, Safiya realizes that her family has always been incomplete and with her own future in the balance, it's time to uncover the secrets that war has kept buried.

This was one of my favourite books as it was based on fact, the war in Syria. It showed the life of a girl and her family who had run away because of the war and discovered family secrets that the war kept hidden.

I thought this book was really good, that's why I gave it 4 stars. My fav character has to be Snowball 😸😸😸 though I did also like Abu Ali. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a story a bit different from others. It was really interesting reading about Safiya's journey to Jordan and learning about how she lived in a house without walls and having to cooking for everyone. Even though I like a sad or tragic ending, this book was still awesome!! My overall rating had to be... ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'd say 4 stars means very good, not an all time favourite but still a book to read sometime again in the future. Thanks. 😋😊😉
