When Charlie's longed-for brother is born with a serious heart condition, Charlie's world is turned upside down. Upset and afraid, Charlie flees the hospital and makes for the ancient forest on the edge of town. There Charlie finds a boy floating face-down in the stream, injured, but alive. But when Charlie sets off back to the hospital to fetch help, it seems the forest has changed. It's become a place as strange and wild as the boy dressed in deerskins. For Charlie has unwittingly fled into the Stone Age, with no way to help the boy or return to the present day. Or is there?

I love this book because it has lots of words and it has a good setting discretion.

I liked this book a lot because a wolf dies and his baby brother has a problem with his heart so he runs away. It is really boring at the start and it gets more realistic at the end.

When Charlie’s baby brother Dara is born with a problem in his heart, Charlie RUNS. Runs to the forest with its sheltering leaves that shut out the trouble and hurt and fear. But in the forest is a boy lying in the river, breathing, though only just. And when Charlie goes for help, the forest has changed. Now it’s vast and strange. Something ancient. Something WILD. And Charlie is a long way from home. An unforgettable adventure about courage, hope, family and finding your way.

I really liked this book, its about going back in time to another era. I also like it because it mixed fiction with real history. Harby is a great character because he teaches Charlie (and me) all the stoneage ways and he is adventurous.

I enjoyed all the twists and turns and mysteries. It made me fell sad at some parts but it was mostly enjoying. I would like it to have a sequel.
