A shortcut through the forest to Grandma's house produces some eerie moments – and some oddly familiar characters – in a strikingly illustrated tale about facing fears. One night a boy is woken by a terrible sound. A storm is breaking, lightning flashing across the sky. In the morning Dad is gone and Mum doesn’t seem to know when he’ll be back. The next day Mum asks her son to take a cake to his sick grandma. ""Don’t go into the forest,"" she warns. ""Go the long way round."" But, for the first time, the boy chooses to take the path into the forest, where he meets a variety of fairy tale characters.

In really like it because it has all of the fairytale stories like goldilocks, jack and the beanstalk and red riding hood. My favourite characters are goldilocks and jack and the beanstalk and the little boy because they all played a big part in the story and all of their lines I thought were very creative to read. I love the book title.

I thought there was going to be a wolf in it as it reminded a bit of little red riding hood. It had lots of different characters that reminded me of other fairy tales jack and the beanstalk, Goldilocks and the three bears and Hansel and gretel.

There were lots of spooky things in the background but I loved the story. I liked that there were other stories in the book like Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks. I would not recommend it though because it is spooky and might give people nightmares.

This is a story about a boy who one night is woken by a terrible sound. The sky has lightning and there is a storm. The next morning the boy wake up to find his dad is gone and his mums is unsure when he will be returning. Like the story little red riding hood, his mum asks him to take a cake to his sick grandma and told him "don't go into the forest, go the long way round". But the little boy does take the forest route where he meets lots of well known fairytale characters, Hanzel, Gretel and Cinderella's slipper, the wood cutters axe. I recommend it
