i recently picked this up in special edition at my local library having seen it in many places. I had no idea what an emotional rollercoaster this book would be. It truly takes you on a journey where we follow a hawk.

It was fiction but also a bit factual. My favourite character was Callum because he's such a kind person he helped a girl travel to Scotland where he lived so that she could see Scotland for herself. He helped save the osprey that his family hadn't seen for over a hundred years. It's quite sad when Iona dies and I definitely recommend this book to everyone.

A different genre from my normal reads and was surprised at the twist at the start. It linked different cultures together well and was good one when talking about conservation.

They found an osprey on his farm. The female gave birth to a chick and left it for the male to look after it because it needed to go to Africa like it did every year. But SOMETHING HAPPENED!!! Glossary: Osprey - a type of bird Chick - a baby bird

I thought this book was very good and it really interested me at first. About half way through the book, it was mostly about tracking Iris's journey to Africa, which started to bore me a bit. It got more interesting after that. I liked Iona best because she is a really interesting character and even though she seems strange, she is really kind. I would recommend this book to someone who likes books about animals, but doesn't mind occasional sad parts.

A book great for animal lovers. Callum is on his own when Iona dies and his osprey Iris is in trouble in Africa. Using emails he contacts Gambia and rescues iris and had lots of other adventures in the way

Sky Hawk is set in a small farming village in Scotland. It starts with a meeting between three boys and Iona, a girl who has returned to the village to live with her grandfather who is almost an outcast in the village. Callum and Iona form a deep bond of friendship. Iona tells him an incredible secret about a wild creature that is living on his father's farm. Ospreys are endangered and are protected. Callum and Iona become very close friends and together they will do anything to protect the beautiful creature. He and Iona make a promise to keep the ospreys a secret but later Iona dies. About a month later, the bird flies to Africa. Iris has a wound on her leg so it gets really infected and some African people help her recover so she can be free. Then an African girl named Jeneba, writes to Callum saying that Iris is fine and soon she will fly back. Jeneba needs an operation and the only way to save her is to bring her to England. A while later, Jeneba is coming to where Callum is and they will climb the mountain and they will see the bird come back. The novel is written as a fiction genre. The book holds strong themes of relationship - family and friendship. I strongly recommend this book to people who love birds of prey and nature.

I loved it. It was full of human interest and vivid descriptions. I liked the way the narration slipped to the hawk from time to time. The characters were vibrant and the plot was fast-moving. You just wanted to find out what happened next! Of course Iona was my favourite. She was wild and secret, with a big heart.
